A STRAY DOG
The sun shone brilliantly in the clear blue sky that was dotted with fluffy white clouds. I was going home after school when I heard a sound behind me. I turned around and saw a tiny brown hungry looking puppy following me. It looked at me with its big brown pleading eyes. At that moment, I knew what I had to do.
I slowly picked up the puppy carefully. I noticed that it was injured. A small patch of skin was raw and its leg was bleeding. When I reached home, I asked my mother to bring the puppy to the vet. The vet examined the puppy and bandaged its legs. He also applied medicine on its raw wound. We felt sorry for the puppy as it was in great pain. The vet gave the puppy an injection and said it would recover in a few weeks. The vet told us that the puppy had been abused by someone. I was upset and angry on hearing that.
We returned home and fed the puppy with some milk. I asked my mother if we could keep the puppy. My mother was unwilling to keep it but my father persuaded her. He told her that keeping a dog could keep out burglars. Finally, my mother agreed stating that we would have to return the puppy if someone were to claim it. We were overwhelmed and named the puppy “Browny” because it had brown patches on its body.
Two months later, we presumed that Browny’s previous owner had actually deserted him as there were no notices in search for him. Browny lived happily with us now. I wondered why people had pets when they did not know how to look after them. I promised to love and care for Browny forever.
